PRIME MINISTER'S STATEMENT.
CONFIRMS HIS ESTIMATE,
■ The Prime Minister states that the official estimate bears out remarkably his estimate of the probable yield. After travelling 200 miles through the principal wheat growing districts, he ■ set it down at twenty bushels an acre, comparedl with twenty-nine bushels an acre last year. Thanks to the farmers' response to his appeal' to increase the areas sown, New Zealand had been able this year to grow sufficient for its requirements, though probably there would not be much to' spare. "The position," added Mr Massey, "is quite reassuring. I don't think we require to purchase from Australia." Asked to give details of the Government's sale" of Canadian wheat, bought last year, Mr Massey said he was keeping the information for Parliament. "You can say we got out at the top price," he added.
