MILITARY TERMS.
A British battalion consists of 1000 men. A regiment of 2000 men, or two battalions. A. brigade of three battalions, or 8000 men. An army corps usually consists of 40,000. a ittalions are divided into companies, squads, and sections. A company consists of 100 men ; section 25 men ; a squadron of from 120 to 200 sabres. A battal'on is the unit of command m infantry. It oompises the largest n amber of men who, when drawn up m array, can conveniently hear the word of command from an officer. The full complement of a battalion is usually twelve companies ; and when these are drawn up on parade two ranks deep, the ironfr of a battalion is about 890 yards m length. The ' fcillery is divided into thirty brigaf each of which is as large as f vdinary regiment. The brig subdivided- into batteries, and *y counts six guns.
