BOERS RECRUITING IN AMERICA. New York, December 29. Boers are recruiting m America under disguise as agents of the Red Cross organisation. The British Consul at New York has received 6000 offers to serve m South Africa. He replied that volunteers must enlist m England. Berlin, December 29. German authorities m West Africa are taking steps to prelent Boers recruiting m German territory. London, Decemt er 29. The presence of the whole of Sir C. Warren's division m Natal is interpreted as an indication that Cape Colony is quiescent. Sir William Stokes, Surgeon-in-Ordinary to the Queen m Ireland, proceeds to South Africa as consulting surgeon to the Army. The " Queen • sent Christmas felicitations to the troops and expressed herself delighted with their conduot and bravery. Sydney, December 80. The sanction to Major French proceeding to the front is withheld for the present, owing to the receipt of a further cable from the Imperial authorities. William Charles Cooper has donated £2000 to the Patriotic Fund. The total is now £9000. Perth, December 80. The contingent includes two members of the Assembly. Napier, December 80. Lance-Corporal West and Private Halford, of the Rifles, and Private C. A. Chapman, of the Guards, left by the express train for Wellington this morning, having been insteucted to report themselves m connection with the offer to serve m the second contingent. Wellington, December 80. The Wellington Commercial Travellers and Warehouses Association have contributed £100 to the Patriotic Fund. The Governor has received the following cable from Mr Chamberlain : — " Her Majesty commands me to convey her thanks to the people of New Zealand for the loyal and sympathetic message of Christmas and New Year greetings.
