NEW POSTAL ARRANGEMENTS.

We have been favored by the Chief-Post-master, Mr. Bagge, with a copy of the Postal Time-table for the conveyance of mails in this Province for the year 1870, which will show that the public convenience has been studied to a larger extent than heretofore. Especially is this the case as respects the mails between Blenheim and Picton, as it will enable the newspaper proprietors in each town to forward their journals on the same day as printed, a boon which will best be understood by our country friends. The Havelock service via Picton will leave only once weekly by boat from the latter place, which will give a like convenience as regards Picton. The Nelson overland service via Kaituna is to be a fortnightly one, which will make it bi-weekly to Havelock every other week, and if decided so as to leave Blenheim on alternate Saturdays instead of on fixed dates, would be another great improvement. The Wednesday’s Awatere mail is discontinued as being, unnecessary, now that there is a weekly mail through to Kaikoura, which conveys letters through to Christchurch. Taken as a whole, we may express considerable satisfaction with the table as it now stands, and believe it will be found to

work well in practice. We give it in its entirety below:— No. I. —Blenheim and Picton.
