THE PROVINCIAL ELECTIONS.
( There is little more to be said this week respecting the forthcoming Elections. The Nominations fixed so far are as follows :—Lower Wairau, October 12th (Tuesday next) ; Blenheim, 13th ; Tua Marina, 19th ; Queen Charlotte Sound, 25th ; Upper Wairau, 25th; Wairau Valley, 25th ; Awatere, 25th; and Picton, 29th. The dates for Clarence and Pelorus not yet beinsj fixed. The Picton Press intimates that Mr. Wyvill and Captain Baillie are nameilj for Tua Marina ; Messrs. G. Dodson and Mr. Soper have however decided to stand, and will most likely be returned. The Press names Mr. A W. Ingles and Mr. Bullen for Clarence, and Mr. Ward for Wairau Valley; but we find no reason for expecting that Mr. Ward will change his seat, while it is doubtful whether Mr. Ingles will again come forward. At Pelorus (Havelock) Mr. Paul has been solicited to stand, but declines the honor, and it is very probable that the two old members will be re-elected.' The polling days where required are as follows :—Lower Wairau, 19th ; Blenheim, 20th ; Tua Marina, 21st; Queen Charlotte Sound, 27th ; Awatere, 27th; Upper Wairau, 28th ; Wairau Valley, 29th ; and Picton, Nov. 2. The position of parties in the several districts are much the same as stated in our last ; with the exception of the Upper Wairau where it is understood Mr. A. Monro is a candidate in opposition to Mr. Paul, making four candidates
ill the field. Conflicting rumors of contests in both Blenheim and Picton still continue, but so far as this town is concerned, we see no reason at present to expect there will be any.
