THE MARLBOROUGH VOLUNTEERS.
Wk were yesterday shown a very elegant specimen Jof caligrapliy, executed by Mr. Flanaghan, of Blenheim. The style is mediaval, and the capitals are tastefully illuminated in gold and bright colors, and are taken from the celebrated Mazarene bible of the 15th century. The following is the text of the petition : “The humble petition of the Marlborough Rifle volunteers and Cadets, whose names are sent herewith, showeth—- “ That your petitioners were constituted a Rifle Volunteer force in 1860. “ That your petitioners were in receipt of the Capitation Grant allowed to Rifle Volunteers up to the end of December, 1867. “ That your petitioners have not, since that time, received the said capitation allowance. “That many new members would be induced to join the Corps, but your petitioners have no money to supply them with the necessary uniform. “Your petitioners therefore pray that your honorable House will put the Volunteers and Cadets of the Province of Marlborough upon the same footing with respect to the capitation allowance as the Volunteers in other districts of the Colony. “And your petitioners, ag in duty bound, will ever pray,” /
