I ope you will not umbug me by saying hin your waluable paper that you will hanswer me bin your next, but please hanswer me hat once, hand you will hoblige, dear Mr. Heditor, yours truly, Petrs Ludicrous. Blenheim, May 12th, 1869. [lf any person allows himself to be nominated under an assumed name it is quite clear that he does not possess the qualification appended to that name on the electoral roll, therefore if it be proved that he is named otherwise than as nominated or enrolled, such person would be liable at . any period after election to the operation of clause 40, which attaches a penalty of £SO for the offence. If at the polling booth any person gives a false answer to the questions put, as to his correct name and qualification, ha may, on conviction before two or more Justices, be imprisoned for not exceeding one year under clauses 101-2. 3The onus of proof would appear to lie upon the party disputing the accuracy of the answers given to the questions of the Beturning Officer, and . the agsnts of other candidates. , Proofs of a fictitious name may be given before the Revising Officer, who wiu then expunge such name from the electoral roll under clause 34, Register of SSsetors Act, 1860.r—Ed.
