THE BLENHEIM BRASS BAND.
/ To the Editor of the Marlborough Express. Sir, —Allow me to make a few remarks in answer to your correspondents, “E. Bythell,” and “Volunteer,” whose communications you published in your last. I wish to deny having ever asked Mr. Bythell for a search warrant, and if he will jog his memory a little perhaps he may find out his mistake. In my former letter I gave him credit for what he had done ; and my only reason for troubling you was that I thought that, in his position as Captain of the Volunteers, he could have used his influence a little more. I know perfectly well that he was not in Blenheim when the instruments were given up—but that does not affect my argument in the least. As to his other assertions, they all appear to have been obtained from a very unreliable source. Your correspondent, “Volunteer,” if I am informed rightly, seems to have taken the name of Volunteer as a cloak, and his assertions and letter are both too contemptible to take much notice of. He must be a mean coward, whoever he is, to be afraid to sign his name to a letter ; perhaps it was to throw upon someone else his bad composition and grammar. I shall not trouble you again with another communication on this subject, and would not have done so at all had not the members of the band and myself been anxious to make a start. I am, &c., Arthur James Hoskins.
