A DISCLAIMER BY “THE IDLER.”

To the Editor of the Marlborough Express. Dear Sib, —Seeing in your town contemporary an attempted imitation of my original “ Wrinkles picked up in Court,” I have a remark or two to make. 1 should not be at all displeased, but in fact take it as a compliment, to- see in any other newspaper “ Wrinkles” as good or better than those of the original “ Idler,” or his followers, “ Ned Noakes,” and “ Old Identity,” hut I wish it to be understood that I claim exemption from being identified with those appearing in other papers, their tone, character, motives, or tendency ! The original “ Wrinkles” were created—not to pander to wit, at the expense of anyone who offered a mark for the amusement of readers—but to lampoon public abuses in the persons of whomsoever they might appear. Power abased, public business misdirected, or members of the community aggrieved, were and are considered fair marks fe? the “ Idler,” —not by going into psspJeTpri vote houses, describing- ilie position of a bedroom, insinuating the hearing certain sounds on the stairs, and taking the place of a Doctor by saying whether a man was 511 or not. Such well -meant and potent witticisms are distasteful to me, as they must be to every wellregulated mind, and are certainly not allied at all to “ Wrinkles picked up in Court.” I am, &c., Thb Idi.br. , Dec. 2,1168.
