A VOICE FROM THE CADETS.

To the Editor of the Marlborough Express. Sir, —Although I am but a small boy, I hope you will allow me to put a few lines in your paper, because 1 think our fellows (the Carets I mean), are not fairly treated. ’Tis true they are going to take our arms away to the North Island, but that is of no_ consequence, as none of us know much about using them, since we have never had a chance to learn. We have been enrolled a good while, and have never had anything like proper drill from the commencement up to the present time. Our Commanding Officer is, I daresay, a very nice man, and he may he a good schoolmaster, (I was never under him, so I don’t know anything about it myself) ; but I know this much—that he is no soldier, and don’t go the way to make soldiers of us. He seems to have so much to do with Cricket Clubs, Talking Societies, and Singing Societies, that he can’t find time to look after us and our interests. Our Ensigu was to have had his commission six months ago at least, and he has not got it yet, nor is he likely to get it under the present state of affairs; and as to the drill wo get, it is harmless.

If oar Lieutenant cannot do his duty, by us, why don’t he resign ?—we could get another directly, who would be both able and willing to do so.—-I am yoiirs, &c., A Small Boy.
