"WRINKLES PICKED UP AT COURT."

To the Editor of the Marlborough Express. Sir; —Bad weather and bad roads have again conspired to contine me within the classic limits of modern Blenheim ; and in the absence of anymore rational amusement, I paid a visit on Monday to our Temple of Justice. As I am very doubtful as to the value of the “ wrinkles” I picked up, I should be glad if any of your readers could enlighten me on the following queries : Ist. is it consistent with the etiquette of a Magistrate’s Cour, the dignity of the legal profession, or the character of a gentleman, for a solicitor to insult a witness by personal remarks, and the public by insinuation ’ Telling a witness that he “has a very vivid imagination like some other people in the Court,” appears to me very like an insult—to all within range of his voice, Magistrate included. 2nd. Is the art and practice of squinting, leering, grinning, and sucking lollies the necessary qualifications of the youth in an official position ? Because if they are, there is a lad (ranging I should think between ten and twelve years of age) whom I often see near my lodgings, who has a°natural squint of great beauty, and who I have no doubt would do the grinning and lolly-sucking for the price of the sweets—something less I reckon than £101) a-year. Jffiould economy become the order of the day, I would try and discover the lad’s name, and furnish him with a letter of recommendation, from yours faithfully, Neu Noakes. Blenheim, October 19th, 18SS.
