THE OPAWA BREACH.
To the Editor of the Marlborough Express.
Sir, — I trust the Committee appointed yester- t day will proceed in the discharge of the duties entrusted to them with zeal and energy ; but in order that they shall be enabled to do so with success, it will be necessary that levels should be taken, so as to determine the amount and direction of \the fall available. On this point I hear opinions'hazarded and assertions made in a manner which would be very amusing, did they not at the same time serve to render united action almost impracticable. I have had much practice in levelling, and place my best services at the disposal of the Committee in order that they may be put in possession of the necessary data for determining the best course to adopt. An assessment will of course evoke conflicting interests, but I hope this difficulty will give way to the good sense of the community. Ido not expect to escape myself without a considerable contribution.—Yours, &c., Blenheim, July 16th, 1838. W. Budge.
