Original Poetry.
LINES WRITTEN ON QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY Tidal waves that mark the strand, Ocean waves that bound the land ; Let this day your voice be mellowed, On this day let all be hallowed, For this day, of princely line, Was bom Old England’s Queen and mine. Winds that sweep o’er land and sea, On this day disasters dee; Be no more than whisper falling. Hush’d your voice, as angel calling,— For this marks of princely line, Both of England’s Queen and mine* Spring and summer wrestled strong, Which should claim her birthday’s song ; But ’twas thus went forth the order, On each welcome season’s border, Should be born of princely line, England’s well-loved Queen and min®. Spring and summer haunt her still. Winter come not near to kill; This day, come with dower and blossom. Love for it still warm my bosom. Since this day of princely line, Was born Old England’s Queen and mine. Bhtoheim, May 25th, 1868. W.
