Rider of the winn«r to get » silver-mounted whip ; second, pair of spuis. Distance, half-a-mile. Catch weiglrs. Post entry, 2s 6d. S. Fletcher's Poet (Brennun) ... 1 This race caused great amusement. The three starters came from the back of the course, and Poet who was then six lengths ahead, made for the entrance gate, and lost more than his lead. But when the second pony passed, The Poet made a rush and took the race on the post.

Pcblicans' Handicap of L 25. Distance 1£ miles. Handicap to be declared after the running of the Gore Handicap. Nomination 20s ; acceptance, 15s. Gault and E-ans b g .Mokoreta, aged, 9st (Lawson) 1 Ganlt and Evans' eh g Warwick, 9st lib 2 N. Kelly's br g Claret, 7it 2lbs ... 3 Claret carried 25lbs over weight and found the burden too great. It could not, however, prevent him from trying to boit, and he lost whatever chance he might have had". The ovrners declared to win with Mokoreta. Totalisator dividend Ll 4s.

Handicap Time Trotting Race of LIO Distance three miles. No weight under, 10 stone. Nomination, 10s ; acceptance, 10s. W. Souness' gr g Charlie (Taggart) ... 1 Maggie, Kangaroo, Nobby and Sally aUo ran. Charlie conceded all the others 60 seconds. For the first two rounds it looked as if Maggie was not to be overtaken without some difficulty, but during the third Charlie, well ridden, came up and won as he pleased. Maggie was also well ridden by young Humphries. Almost all the hones broke at some portion of the race. In this as all the dther races but the first no official record of the time was kept. Totalisator dividend L 2 2s.

Consolation Handicap of LlO, for all horses beaten during the meeting. Distance one mile. Entrance 103. Post entry. T. Hewitt's b g Novice, Sst lOlbs, (Lawson) » 1 Four others started but only the winner and Gold Dust were ever in it. At the back of the course they were neck and neck and at this point Gold Dust fell back, as his rider alleged, through being struck orer the eye with Lawson's whip. The stewards met and considered the protest, and after hearing the evidence dismissed the protest, but not as a frivolous one. The dividend on this race was the largest of the meeting, riz. L 5 4s.

Selling Rach of L 5. One mile. No weight under 10 ston*\ Winner to be sold immediately after the race for LlO ; any surplus to go to the funds. Entrance, 10s. Post entry. H. M'lntyre's b g Wando (Souness) 1 Afield of six started, Blue Peter being second. The winner was bought in by the owner.
