OTARIA ROAD BOARD.
At Puko.rau on the 20th. day of December, 1884. an adjourned meeting of the Otaria Road Board was held. — Present— Messrs J. M'Kenzie (chairman), Dawson, Eadie, Elliot. A. M'Kenzie, D. P. Mackenzie, Quaker and Stewart. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. Letter from the County Council, that the Pukerau-Waipahi road is a naaiu road under the Koads and Bridges Act, and that LSOO has been applied for on said road ; also that the Government was applied to for PukcrauKulso road to be placed on list of main roads, but application was refused. Several members expressed dissatisfaction with the manner in. which this road h.id bi'en treated by the County and the Grovernmaut and it was ultimately agreed that the clerk should communicate with Mr Richardson, w,ho was boih member of the House of Representatives and of the County Council, so as to have it t .ken on. Tt was explained that there was only about three miles of it altogether. Mr Eadie moved, Mr Qualier seconded, and i» was agreed to, that th« County Council be communicated with in regard to j the flood channel at Pukarau, th : Railway Department having expressed their rt-a duess 10 proceed when the onnty OounHL were ready to do their part ; a copy of this ie>-olu-tion also to be sent to Mr Kichard*on. The ck-.rk reported that he understood from the Engineer and Mr Ruß'. n .a (contractor) that there was a misunderstanding as to contract No. 84, the contractor having put the wrong number in his tender. The Board left it to tha Engineer to certify to the work wken completed, the tender being the lowest. 'J he tanders for contracts No. 85 (footpaths) and No. B<> (horse and foot bridge at Pukerau township) were opened. The only tendtrs were from Mr J. Mackenzie. Contract No. 85 : Tender L2B, Mr Davvson moved Mr Qualter seconded, that the tender be accepted. Contract No. 86, L37, Mr Dawsou moved aud Mr Qualtor seconded that it be left with the Pukerau sub-division to deal with the ofier either in whole or in part.— Carried, Letter irora Messrs Finn and Eattray, re balance of contract No. 71, now reported by the Engineer to be completed. The clerk was instructed to reply that as the sum was claimed by Mr Burke, the money would be paid on the first receipt of Messrs Scott and Burke, and they could settle the matter be* tween themselves. Mr D. P. M'Kenzie moved -»nd Mr Qualter seconded, that the first part of contract No 76— cul verts Kaiwera Downs— ba gone on with, and that tenders be advertised for. Carried. Contract No 79— Metalling at Mr Weatherburn's After discussion it wis agreed that the cost should be borne equally between Kaiwera and Otaria subdivisions, who were to have half the metal on either side of the bridge. It was resolved to advertise for tenders. Contract No 71— Culverts at Mr Lucas' Creek. On the motion of Mr Stewart, seconded by Mr D. P. M'Kenzie, it was resolved to advertise for tenders for this ci ntract. Contract NO 87— Culvert, etc., at Mr Dennis Kean's. Ou the motion o£ Mr Stewavt seconded by Mr Elliot, the Engineer was in* etructed to prepare specification of tenders . whichjwere aimed to bo advertised for. Mr Eadie moved and Mr Elliot seconded, that the Engineer be instructed to assist in the allocating of the items to be placed against each subdivision so as the state of each might be seen at nexfc meeti»g of the Bpard. Carried,
