TUTURAU ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Board was lield on Saturday at Humphries' Hotel, Mataura. Present — Messrs Eae (chairman), Pollock, Macartney, Townahend. and M'Kay. Correspondence, was read as follows :— Petition from Mr E. Jackson re road to section 25, block 4 9. He required' two culverts made and some other work done. — The chairman stated that- therewas a hope that the County Council would give a grant of about L3O, if application were made in the proper form. The justness of the appeal was generally admitted by the Board. It wa3 resolved to .make the application for a grant as indicated. The Property Tax Commissioner wrote that L 5 12s additional rates for section 12, block 10, Tuturau, had been placed to the Board's credit. Mr Meikle wrote asking for refund of moneys paid for advertising tho proposed •j lteration of boundary between the Jtaria and Tuturau lload Boards. \No particulars or vouchers were submitted ; therefore no action was taken. The clerk submitted tracing of road which had beon promised to the Board by Mr Dickie to save him altering his fence. It now transpired that there was some mistake in the fence line of Lauderdale and of Mr A Shanks' property, but that Mr D&&ie*a was right. As. the survey had been made, approved, and registered, it w&s uecessary to retrace th.o step 9 taken in the Land Office. — -Some severe comments were made upon the surveyor, who. should have found out the error. The; clerk was instructed to refer the matter to tho Chief Surveyor for enquiry. The statement of the position of the Board was submitted by the secretary* ft showed an available balance of LllS 17s <kl, but against this there had to W taken the cost of transfers and ccaapen* nation, leaving about L7O available for expenditure during the financial year. The following accounts were passed for payment :— Otaria Road Board (adjustment of partition account), L 54 6s 8d • Returning officer, L 2 2s; Clerk, (salary)* Ll2- 10s ; James Wright, 18s ; H Warden. 18s ; A. Dolamore. L3ls 8d • andL.Nichol (interest), lAO, ' .*■ The Chairman stated that the Mataura Town Board contemplated getting an office, and wished to know whether the Board would combine with them in providing one which would suit both Boards. It was agreed that, as tho Board was exceedingly well suited at present, it was not desirable to make any change. ! Upon the motion of Mr Pollock, | seconded by Mr Macartney, it was re«. solved to spend L4O on each sub-division.. This would mean an encroaehmenk ©S LoO on next years rates.
