The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Tuesday evening last, when there were present — Messrs Brown (chairman), Penney, M'Gill aud Ryder. The clerk intimated by telegram that he had missed the train, and it was resolved to go on with the business and adjourn if necessary till the following evening. The clerk submitted a statement,, which will be found elsewhere, or! the position of the Board, and asked whether the motion carried at the previous evening's meeting was to be considered a notice of dismissal. He said he should require three months' notice — at least, he understood so from the Board's solicitor. He would be very happy to act a? their clerk, but he would require three months' salary in lieu of notice. The statement was then submitted for approval. The item " unpaid rates " evoked some discussion. It was stated that Mr W. Hendsrson had received certain, items through the Court when they were sued for. His account against the Board was much greater than the sum he had in hand. — Mr M'Gill stated that Mr Henderson had dealt most liberally by the Board. In the small cases for rates he was allowed no costs. His account was now about 15 months old. — The estimate was approved on the motion of Mr Hunter, seconded by Mr Penny, and ordered to be advertised. Mr Hunter also gave notice that he would move, at a special meeting to be held on the 25th inst. that a rate of Is in the £ be struck. — Mr Ryder seconded the motion, which was carried. The solicitor, Mr Henderson submitted his account LI 4 5s 6d, after a sum of Ll2 10s, rates received through the Court had been given credit for. The account was passed for payment. Mr M'Gill brought up the matter of the slaughtering license fees as between the County Council and the Board. He understood that a motion had been paseed instructing the clerk to ask for a refund of those, taken by the County, which belonged to the Board. — The clerk had not done so and was instructed to write to the above effect before next meeting. The owner of M'Kay's Hall, who was present, offered the B.oard the use of it at L 8 per year. The master w&s left in the hands of the Chairman and ]$r Hunter with power to act, subject to the approval of the Board.
