WAIKAIA.

(From our own correspondent.) The concert aud ball on Monday erening ■was well patronised, as all such affairs are in this district when for a caairitable purpose. This being to defray the expenses attending fencing oar new cemetery, of course coined un<3«r that denomination. During the interval an interesting: proceeding took place, the presentation of a handsome marble clock with suitable inscription, to Mr Menzies' postmaster, who is about to b« removed frons here, much to the regret of residents in the district, who are fullj alivo to. the loss they sustain through f.thQ departure of sufch an obliging and attentira officer. We were at one time threatened with almost total extinction in the post and telegraph line. After the termination of the concert above referred to the room was cleared for dancing and the company enjoyed themselves • throughly until about four- o'clock. At the • same time they would, have rather won Ihe . match, and hoped that ihe next time they met the result might be reversed.
