OTARIA ROAD BOARD.

* The ordinary monthly meeting of this Board was held at Pukerau on Saturday. Present — Mr Ea<Ue(in the chair) and Messrs Dawson, Elliot, A. M'Kenzie,D. P. M'Keuzie, Qualter andSmail. Letter from the Cqunty Council intimating resolution that this Board be voted £20 as a subsidy, at the rate]of & for £ for formatiou of footpaths in Pukerau township. Mr Dawson' moved and Mr Elliot seconded, " That this be agreed to." Carried. Letter from County Council intimating a like subsidy for culverts, etc., on road Pukerau to Waipahi. It was considered that the whole of this work was a duty incumbent on the Council, but on the understanding that it should be expended Jat Mr Allan's place and otherwise arrange! to the 8 itisfaotion of this Board, Mr Dawson moved and Mr D. P, McKenzie seconded, "lhat it be agreed to." Carried, Letter from Mr Perkins, clerk to Tuturau Road Board, soliciting co-operation in the endeavor to urge the County Council to take over the road east of the Mat aura River ending at Gorlon. After consideration to the effect that the County made a point of deducting from "subsidy sums expended on such roads after being taken over, and that any benefit derived was mere apparent than real in dealing" piecemeal with what ought to be county roads, Mr Ellio.t moved and Mr D. P. M'Kenzie seconded, 'That this matter be held over for further Carried. The season being at hand for making such expenditure and, improvements on. the roads as were within tKe financial limits of the Board, a general explanatory conversation as to the various waiits and more pressing necessities of the three subdivisions was entered upon, and finally the engineer was instructed, to prepare specifications within mentioned limits for various works, tenders to be called for against the next ordinary meeting of the Board, and the several movers of the motions to be conferred with previously by the engineer as to the works, viz : — 1. Pukerau township, the township deferred payment money ; Mo/ed by Mr Dawson, seconded by Mr D. P. M ( Kenzie. 2. The road leading from Mr Joseph Pujlar's, onwards, L3O : Moved by Mr Q lalter, seconded by Mr Dawson. 3, The road from Mr Collins to Mr M'Lellan's, L25 • Moved by Mr Elliot and seconded by Mr Dawson. 4. The road through the s^amp on the other side of Mr Templeton's, and cutting at Mr Stewart's " Pinch," L 35 : Moved by Mr D, P. M'Kenzie, seconded by Mr Smail, 5, The road at Mr Quertier's, L 25 : Moved by Mr Elliot, seconded by Mr D. P. M'Kenzie. 6. The road along the Otaria school past Mr Weatherburn's, LI 5 : Moved by Mr Elliot, ! seconded by Mr Smaii. 7. The road opposite Mr Bowmar's. Ll2 : .\;oved by Mr Elliot, seconded by Mr Stnaiil. 8. The cierk was desired to have at next meeting a statement of the financial position of ;each subdivision. An account of 12s for advertising " final notice to ratepayers " ,was passed for payment with the remark it should be charged to the defaulters, and that ratepayers- would undeistaudthe notice was final would now be issued. The rates, it was remarkedj had, however, come in very well indeed.
