Draw on Nature— she compels you to . lionor tlie acceptance. mHIRTY YEARS since, when Dr Smith ; JL 'first commenced practice, here, at was thought by medical men, that to be a Specialist Iwas derogatory" to the 'professional man, but this, like most other innovations in scientific and lay matters, was found rather' to aid than to be " infra dig " to that profes sion, wherein the specialty was practised. Lallemand and.Ricbrd, in France, and Acton, in England, were for years cried down by their medical brethren. Now and for many past years they have been looked up to, and quoted, by every man who pretends to have any knowledge of the particular branch of the profession which these . gentlemen specially devoted themselves to. It was the same with Erasmus Wilson, the " Skin Doctor." recently knighted by Her Majesty. - Years since, it was. the same with Dr L. L Smith, of Melbourne, who practised (as did Lallemand and Rieord) as a specialist. In all cases of diseases and habits which produce symptoms of Nervous Affections, of Skin Eruptions, of Prostration, and make human beings ; invirile, or which . unfit thew to carry, on the purposes of their being, or which demonstrates itielf, on the other hand, in Eruptive Diseases and Secondary Forms of Affections. In all pf these cases how necessary it is to have the Specialist who has deyoted his whole lifetime to the studying and practising in this one branch of his profession 1 Hence, now, after so many years, all minutife are familiar to him, and symptoms which (it is not unreasonable to suppose) may not strike the General Practitioner at once, how from constant practice and. observation make Dr L, L. SMITH waster of the subjectThe medical profession-- that is, the more liberal-minded of them— have likewise recognised this fact, and Specialists now in every branch — oculigta, ;aurists, syphillic mental diseases, chest diseases, arid in fact .every portion of the human frame, has now some member of the profession who devotes his time to that, and, to none other.
