[Copy urgent telegram from Dr Ma'cCarthy.J . Arrow, 17th March, 1883.— T0 Horace D. Monk, Dunedin. — Send large di-arrhcea bottle, ! Duncan, Roxburgh, through by coach Monday ! morning without fail. — C. MacCarthy. Rangiora, July 7, 1881. Sir, — Having carefully examined your 'Herbal Extract,' I find it to be a skillfully '■prepared vegetable preparation, possessing the properties pf the plants from which it is , derived in a highly concentrated state, a fact , which I have verified by evaporating a fluid | drachm placed in a watchglass over a spirit ' lamp. On weighing the result, a dark green 5 extract, I found the weight to be 14 J grs. ; On further submitting the extract to analysis ; I found it to be rich in .tannin. In a large I number of cases of ordinary diarrhoea, as well. as in many chronic cases and in dysen- . tery, I have proved it to possess great specific j control, added to the inusual feature in a : majority.. o£ dia^xhcea, medicines, that: it "does' jnot subsequently constipate the bowels. \ v l feel satisfied that from the number of trials ,1 have been enabled to make of it in a.some:what extensive practice, it is a most valuable (addition to modern therapeutics. The following cases are taken at random from my. 'note-book ': — Case No. 1 : Mrs — — , West ;Eyerton, suffering for two years from chronic -dysentery, which had reduced her almost to a skeleton. After a fortnight's trial not only had the diarrhoea stopped, but she commenced eating meat without pain and the Visual concomitant vomiting. In two months fshe had gained 181bs. weight, Case No. 2 : A. G , child aged 6 years. Fortnight diarrhoea. Was effectually cured on the third day. Case No. 3 : A soldier who had contracted dysentery in India got a small two-Qunc'e phial,; and was /well 'bo-fore' he had finished half of it. — Caarles DeLacy MacCarthy, M.A., M.8., &c, Trinity College Dublin.' ! ___ ' .
