CONCERT AT WYNDHAM.

-^~ -* Leahy's Hall, "Wyndham, was taxed to its utmost capacity on Saturday evening, when a concert was given under the auspices of |tlie local Dramatic Club. The weatherjjwas very unpropitious, and the fact that it was " race night " must to a. great extent account for the large attendance. The bill of fare consisted of two farces by the Dramatic Club, and a number of vocal and instrumental selections, the latter by a very complete orchestra, numbering among the performers some well-known members of the Invercargill and Oamaru Garrison Bands. The first farce performed was the well-known. " Found in a Four Wheeler," by Williams, the cast being as follows : Mr TJdolpho Manfred Holloway, Mr A. H. Ross ; Joe Capsize, Mr J. A. Algie; Clara, Miss Mary Cameron ; Milly Meddlesome, Miss Grace V. Cameron. We must only say that we were agreeably surprised at the acting of all the characters. The Misses Cameron showed that ■ they had studied their parts carefully and intelligently. Miss Mary, as the wife of Mr Holloway, acted the part of mistress of the house admirably; and Miss Grace, as Mrs Holloway's maid servant, gained loud applause by her excellent style and delivery. Although apparently slightly nervous, Mr Hoss made up well as the retired stock broker ; and Mr Algie's faithful representation of the driver of the four wheeler was irresistibly mirth provoking, and he was the life and soul of the piece. The other farce was entitled '"The Area Belle." Penelope (the Area Belle) was allotted. Miss Grace V. Cameron ; Mrs Croaker (the " Missus "), Miss Annie Pratt ; Pitcher (a policeman), Mr E. J. Dennehy ; Tosser (a soldier), Mr D. Poppelwell ; Walker Chalks (a milkman), Mr J. Black. Miss Cameron's acting was again exceedingly good ; and Miss Pratt's imitation of the garrulous old f missus " left nothing to be desired. The three gentlemen all filled their parts fairly, although the , prompter was brought into requisition ! too lrequently. The Dramatic Club are to be congratulated on the . success of their efforts on this occasion, and it is but justice to say that this result is in a great measure due to the able tuition of the stage manager, Mr J. A. Algie. During the interval between the two farces, a successful musical melange was given. The orchestra consisted of Messrs Durie and McGregor (violins), Ferguson (euphonium and double bass), W. V. Siddall (cornet and clarionet), Macpherson (piano), Anthony (soprano and flute), J. Little (tenor horn), W. J. Cossar (cornet), Algie (slide trombone), and Little (side drum and triangle). It may be safely said that the music played by these gentlemen was of a class far superior to anything ever heard in the district previously, and each selection was received with marked appreciation. Mr Siddall played a difficult cornet solo in his usual . well known style. Mrs G. 3?. Richardson sang a solo> " The Clipper" in a vigorous manner that did the lady credit ; and, in response to a vociferous encore, "Give and Take." Messrs Anthony and Little brought down the house in their comic duets, and had to respond to encores. — On the motion of Mr M'Kay, the customary votes, of thanks were carried by acclamation ; and the hinging of the National Anthem by the company concluded an enjoyable entertainment.
