z,^ Jit.-.-,, ■-• -.- '■"-• x - •-•- - I . (Fro.m our own Corcespqndent.) .'., . ■ A meeting was/held at. Mr Bradmore's ri «tpre on Thursday evening, 22nd instant, for W,the,purpose»of forming a .committee to carry out the usual sports on Boxing Day. Mr pradmore waf yoted ta» the chair;', and tho

following gentlemen was elected a managing , committee :— Messrs McAlister, Allan,' Thomas, Tucker, McLeod, Crosbie, Fraser, R. Sinclair, Small, Dore, and Bradmore. Mr McAlister was appointed treasurer and Mr J. Martin secretary. Messrs Sinclair, McLeod, Bradmore, and Fraser were appointed a tub-committee to draw up a programme to be submitted to the general oommittee for their approval. The meeting then adjourned. A slight accident occurred last Friday morning to a Castlerock buggy while crossing the Oreti river, which might have resulted rather seriously to some of the occupants, but fortunately eventuated only in a broken svririgletree and pole. It seems some lady visitors were driving over from *Castlerock to catch the Waimea train. When in the middle of the river one of the swingletrees and pole broke, and one of the horses got i away, leaving the buggy and passengers in . the middle of the stream. The gentleman who was driving then pluckly carried the ladies out to dry ground. Mr Black and several otker gentlemen were speedily at tke scene of the accident, and soon got the buggy out. Mr Black drove the ladies in his own trap to the railway station in time to catch the train. Sickness seem to be very prevalent in tkis district at present. Mrs Martin, wife of our railway guard, hu been lying dangerously ill this last week. . Last Wednesday Dr Hoeter had very little hopes of her, but at present Mrs Martin is in a fair way of recovering. We are getting splendid weather here just now, and in most places the crops are looking well.
