SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTIONS.

PINKAOLE. , ! The annual meeting for the eleotion'of a| committee for the ensuing year was held att the schoolhouie, Pinnaole, last Monday eten-, ing. There was a large attendance and Mr! Hay (chairman ef committee) occupied "the' chair. The Chairman read a report showing a balance in hand to the credit of the. committee of £2 12s 4d. The Chairman said they were all no doubt aware that the Inspector to the Southland Board of Education had reported in favor of removing the Pinnacle school from its present position to the Waikaka siding, and at the request of the Inspector he would ask them to say if they would uphold that report or vote tot the school being allowed to remain where it waß. Mr Dawson thought they should first prooeed with the election of a committee for the ensuing y«ar. The Chairman having put the question to the meetiag it was decided to first proceed with the election of the new committee. Twelve names were proposed, and only seven being required a ballot was taken with tho following result :— Messrs K. Sheddon, J> Hay, A. Syme, H. McKinnon, W. Dowman, T. Daweon, and J. fowler.

The Chairman then asked those present to vote on the question of removing the Bchool to Waikaka siding, when the chow of hands g aTe the following result :— For its retention in its present position, 26 ; for its removal, 12. A vote of thanks to the chairman closed the proceedings. OTAMA. A meeting was held at Mr Alexander Stewart's on Monday evening for the purpose of electing a School Committee for the year, The following gentlemen were elected, viz., Messrs Oooper, Kennedy,! McOallum, Baxter, Stewart, MoGHlvray, and O'Hara. Mr Stewi art was elected chairman and Mr Cooper aeore tary. , MATAURA. The retiring committee reported that the school was in good order and that a cash bal- • ahce of somewhere about £5 was available for the new committee to start with. Palmer, Lowden, Dickie, and Angus. , Mr Palmer was elected chairman of the new committee and Mr Lowden secretary and treasurer. Mr Thomas MacGHbbon was, at the committee , meeting, 'nominated for the Southland Education Board, WAIKAKA. A largely attended meeting of householders was held on Monday at the Star Hotel, Wai- ! kaka, for the purpose of electing a School Com* mittee for the current year. Out of sixteen .nominations the following gentlemen wer« ■ eleoted :— Messrs Lamb, M'Leod ,Balantyne, ; Smith, Barron, Noble and Mclnt j«h. Immediately after the general meeting a committee meeting was .held at which Mr D. Lamb !was eleoted chairman and Mr M'Leod eecre- < tary and treasurer. There was a very small attendance.: Mr A, A. Maodonald acted as chairman.
