Sires of the Season. TO TRAVEL THIS SEASON. rp.EE Splendid and powerful Draught | Clydesdale Colt, TAIERI. TAIERI is a dark brown colt, four years old, and stands 16.} hands high, with immense muscular power, good action, and a fine temper. He was shown when 2 years old, and took first prize ; when 3 years old he took second prize against all ages, at the Marlborough Agricultural Society's Show. His sire was bred by Donald Grant, Esq., of Kirklands, West Taieri, and is out of the Clydesdale mare Gentle, by Comet. Comet bred by John Nanmo, Esq., out of his imported mare Jean, by Marquis; Marquis was bred by John Brown, Preston Hall, Heidelburg. He has gained the following prizes : When one year old two first prizes ; when two years old, three first; when tluce years old, six first and two second, showing against imported horses; when four year old showing against all comers, four first and" one second ; and three days before being shipped for Otago, lie carried oil' the first prize at the Grand National Show at Geelong, over tnel\e competitors. In Otago lie has gained five first and six second prizes. Marquis by Prince Charlie, out of Mr Brown’s Old Jean ; Old Jean gained thirteen first prizes, and never was beaten. Comet’s dam Jean was bred by Alexander Galbraith, Croyeiinningham, Kilearn ; Jean’s dam was the famous mare Jess, who muticd six first prizes out of seven competitions ; Jean also gained six first and second prizes before leaving Scotland, and seventeen first and second prizes since coming to this country. Jean’s sire was the celebrated horse Justice, grandsire Mr Clark’s Prince Albert, who gained the Highland Society’s second prize at Glasgow in ISSO, first at Brechin in ISfil, first at Hamilton in 1852. G. grandsire Clyde allowed to be the best horse in Britain in bis day. Comet was first shown as a two-year old at the Taieri Show, where be got the first prize ; he was next shown as a three-year old against all classes, when he took second prize ; and last season at Tokomairiro, his sire being first. Taicri's dam, Gentle, is out of Betty, by Champion; Champion was bred by Mr Anderson, Druncore, \\ igtonshiie, Scotland. When one year old he gained two first prizes ; when two years old he gained four first and two seconds ; when three years old ho gained the premium of 40 sovereigns at Glasgow ; when four years old ho gained the premium of 50 sovereigns, awarded by the Kircudbright Agricultural Society ; when five years old lie gained the premium of 40 sovereigns at Glasgow ; he also gained the silver medal for the best five yearlings got by any horse that travelled in 1S5!). He was afterwards shipped to Australia, and, after a passage of 131 days, when only eight days landed, he gained the first prize at Ballarat: also the silver cup for being to best animal in the yard. Ho also gained the first prize at Sweaton the same year. He was afterwards shipped to New Zealand, where he gained a first prize at the 'Taieri. and in which district ho undoubtedly left more good stock than any horse that ever travelled before or since, j Gentle’s dam, Betty, was bred by ; Captain Gardiner, Dandauong 4 ietoria. j Sire, the imported Clydesdale horse | Reformer, dam Bess, imported by Captain I Gardiner. Betty gained a first prize as a I one-year old, in Melbourne, in 1554, second ias a two-year old in 185.), and similar ! honors as a three-year old in 185(3, all in : Melbourne.

TAIEEI was bred by Mr. George Storey, out of Fanny, the well-known Prize Mare. TAIEitI will stand at A. McColl’s Masonie Stables, Blenheim, on Wednesdays and Saturday* ; Wairau Valley on Mondays ; through Renwick on the way back to Blenheim ; Spring Creek on Thursdays ; and Picton Road on Fridays, should sufficient inducement offer.
