TO TRAVEL THIS SEASON. THE Splendid Pure Bred Clydesdale Stallion, MODEL BLACK LEGS, PEDIGREE : MODEL BLACK LEGS is a dark bay, with black points, stands 1(31 hands high, with great bone and good symmetry, and a quiet good worker. He took first prize at Leeston when two years old, second prize at Nelson when five years old, and first at the Marlborough Agricultural Show in 1 SSI, against all comers. He was bred by Mr W. Holley, Christchurch. His sire, Lofty, was imported from Scotland, where he took five first and one second prizes, and has beaten every horse shown against him in New Zealand, He has gained upwards of twenty first prizes. MODEL BLACK LEGS’ dam, named Bella, was bred by Mr Robert Stephenson, East Taieri, Otago ; she has taken twelve first prizes before leaving that province, viz :—First prize when one year old, 1565 ; first prize at the Taieri, and first at Dunedin when two years old, 1800 ; two first prizes at the Taieri, and two first prizes at Toko* mairiro, and first prize at Dunedin, 'when three years old, 18(37 ; one first prize at the Taieri, and two first prizes at Tokomairiro, when four years old, IS6B ; one first prize at the Taieri, when five years old, 1809 ; and she has taken three first prizes since she came to Canterbury, viz :—First prize at Christchurch when six years old, 1870 ; first prise at Christchurch when seven years old, 1871 ; and first prize when eight years old, 1872 ; shown against imported mares from Victoria and .Scotland. The above will show that Model Black Legs’ dam has taken fifteen first prizes—twelve in Otago, and three in Christchurch. Bella is by the well-known horse, John Blair’s Champion, imported from Scotland to Otago, and her dam, Duchess, a first prize marc, was bred by Dr. Wilmer, Longford, Tasmania, out of the best imported mare, and by an imported horse from Scotland, Duchess was bought by Mr Robert Stephenson, of Otago, for the sum of LISO, being one of the best mares in Tasmania. The above will show that Model Black Legs is bred from the best stock that was ever imported to the colonio3.
