AWATERE ROAD BOARD.
Wednesday, December Id. The Board met at 10 o’clock. Present — Messrs P. R. Alcßae (in the chair), Green, Stace, and Alowatt. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. co i: R espon ok nce, &c.
Air A. J. C. Ward wrote to the Board in reference to making plans of the East Coast road, offering to make them for LUO on a scale of 3 chains to the inch ; for LI 20 at 10 chains do ; and LI 00 at 20 chains do. It was resolved that the matter should stand over until the next meeting and that the Secretary make enquiries, witli a view to ascertaining whether these plans cannot be completed at a less cost. In reply to a letter from Alessrs Fulirmann and Willis the Secretary was instructed to inform them that the Board was not prepared to remit any rates. The Secretary was instructed to write to Air Acton Adams with a view to his urging the Amuri Road Board to open up that portion of the road through the Acheron lying in their district. TENDERS. The following tenders for side cuttings from the Taylor Saddle northwards on the Taylor Pass road were laid before the Board H. O'Leary L 7 9s fid per chain, time, 1 months ; Blackburn and Co. L 9 9s 5(1 do, time, 8 months ; T. Neville L 7 10s do, time, 7 months ; H. Ellis Lo 3s (3d do ; T. S. Aladdock L 4 10s do, time, 5 months. It was resolved that the matter should stand over until the next meeting. reduction of wages. It was agreed that the wages of the road men employed by the Board be reduced to 5s Gd per chain. ACHERON ROAD. The Inspector of Works was instructed to put in repair that part of the Acheron road lying within their district. lnspector’s report. Air Aladdock, Inspector of Works, reported that the following works had been completed since the last meeting of theßoard. The Awaterc and Grey bridle tracks have been repaired at a cost of L 34 Ss 4d, and three men have been put on to repair the road from the mouth of the Grey to Upcot,
and it is intended to repair the bridle track from Upcot to Castle Creek. It has been found necessary to send two men to dress the cuttings on the South road as far as the Shades. All the timber is on the ground ready for building the bridges at the Fresh Water Lagoon and it is intended to go on with the work immediately. Mr \\ atson, of Dumgrcc, objects to any roadwork being done on the road from Gee's whare to Mr Linton’s until the road has been acquired. Mr M atson says the trustees of the Dumgree estate must be consulted in the matter and the Inspector is now waiting for further instructions before proceeding with the work. Thomas Maddoek lias completed his contract for forming 48 chains of side cutting at Tar Barrel Hill at 80s per chain, and he is also pushing on with his contract for repairing the rout from Castle Creek to Saxton’s river. .M'Cor NTS.
