WAKAMARINA.
[From a Correspondent.] October 12 th
I am very happy to inform you that the right sort of men are at last finding their way to the Wakamarina and I firmly believe that during the next 12 months the population will he considerably increased. Diamante, Trent, and Company have taken up an extensive river claim three miles from Canvas Town, formerly known as the “ Hit or Miss” claim. Mr C. Diamante and party made an attempt to work this ground some years ago when over a 100 ounces was obtained by them, hut through a dispute arising amongst the party a breakdown was caused of the machinery, which consisted of an undershot water wheel, with Californian pump. Mr O. Diamante thinks lie can improve upon his last adventure, and seems very sanguine as to the ultimate success of the mine if properly managed. The Gorge Company are waiting another shipment of cylinders which they expected over some days ago. The Oliver Sluicing Company’s claim is expected to be in full working order in three months. Mr Charles Morgan and party have for some time been working in the bed of Deep Greek and have blasted a tail race, xv hicli enables them to work the ground upon a face. This week they have been delayed by a sudden and unexpected seizure of blasting powder bv Sergeant Hogan, from T-lavclock, who, l‘am told by Mrs Morgan, entered the store and ransacked it without any authority, or even saying what he wanted, he being at the same time a perfect stranger to the lady. It has very much put her about, especially as her husband was away at the time. Several miners are using powder for blasting purposes and they are now at a loss how to obtain this article legally.
