A MAN LIVING WITHOUT HIS HEAD.

We have heard (with some incredulity, it must be owned), of the marvellous American cock which lives as well without its head as with it, or did so when last heard of. Now we have the case of a man who has lived for more than a mouth with his head all but severed from the trunk, and this time the story is too well authenticated to be disbelieved. The hero of it is- a Frenchman named Jules Eouchon. On the 7th of last June some groans were heard proceeding from the lodgings lie occupied in Paris, and when the neighbors broke open the door they found him stretch ed on the lloor weltering in his blood, with his head almost detached from his body. He had intended to commit suicide, and with this object had cut his throat with a razor. Put lie had failed to achieve his purpose, for he still breathed, and was conveyed to the St. Antoine Hospital. To everyone’s amazement, that of the doctors not excepted, he was still alive when he reached his destination, and what is still more surprising, lie lived for more than a month after his entrance, having only just succumbed. His head was literally only held to the trunk by a thread, and the medical men who attended him consider the prolongation ofhisJife during nearly live weeks as nothing less than phenomenal. Food.was administered to him by means of a sort of funnel; during the weeks he survived lie retained all his faculties, and seemed to he perfectly free from pain, at last dying without a struggle.
