SPRING CREEK RIVERS BOARD.
Tiie adjourned meeting of the Board was held on Monday last, at 2 p.m. The members present were—G. Dodson (Chairman), C. o‘Dwyer, N. T. Pritchard, and Isaac Gifford.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Chairman said the first business would be to consider the petition, which it was intended to present Parliament, praying them not to amend the Hawkcs Bay and Marlborough Rivers Acts, in the manner pro posed by the Lower Wairau Rivers Board. The Secretary having read the petition, the Board approved of it, and it was decided to submit it to the meeting of ratepayers to be held that night.
The Board then examined the Assessment Roll, the Chairman expressing an opinion that the classification of property required amending. Messrs o‘Dwyer and Pritchard said there was no part of the district but was liable to be flooded, and thought it should all be placed in class 1. Mr Gifford protested against the whole of the district being placed under one class, as some lands were much more liable to be flooded than others. If the Board intended to arrange the classification in this way, he should retire from the meeting. Mr C. o‘Dwyer thought it would be the fairest way, as the whole district would be flooded only for tlm protective works. The Chairman and Mr Prichard were of the same opinion. Mr Gifford then left the meeting. It was then resolved that, with the exception of one holding, the whole of the lands in the Spring Creek District to be placed in class 1. The Board then adjourned.
