RIFLE MATCH.

BLENHEIM v. SPRING CREEK. The match between the Blenheim and Spring Creek Volunteers came off at the Spring Creek range yesterday. A breakdown at tho ferry, necessitating a fresh trap, caused our men to arrive a little late on the scene of action, where they were received by the Spring Creek men, and the match at once began. At 200 yards, Blenheim was a point ahead, hut at the other ranges they fell more and more behind, until “ the shades of eve were falling fast,” putting them nearly in the dark, causing tiic last four men to fail signally at the 600 yards, and the Spring Creek won by 65 points. A strange range and the variation in light as the men went over the hill in the afternoon, no doubt had something to do with their defeat; hut their opponents were all good men, and their ability has, wc think, been underrated. Our men enjoyed a most pleasant day. Luncheon was provided on the ground, and the utmost good temper prevailed throughout. The return match is to take place at the Vernon range on Thursday next. The following are the scores : BLENHEIM.
