THE FARM.
FRESH BUTTER. Mr S. Dove, writes to the Hobart Town Mercury “As you are ever ready and willing to publish anything that tends to the benefit of the people of this little Colony, I trust that you will feel that the hint I am about to (dye, well worthy of the same. While at the great international Exhibition some two or three weeks ago, I noticed a plan for tinning up fresh butter in lib and 21b tins, similar to the way in which honey or jam is done. Now that the price of fresh butter is so low could not any of our men of business turn their attention to this matter, for it is a well known fact that butter is cheaper at this time of the year by at least Is per lb than it is in winter. I think there is a splendid opening for any man, or oven a company with small means, to enter into a branch business of this nature. The butter ac the Exhibition is of first rate quality, and I was informed that if properly tinned and made air-tight, will keep good for a length of time. Any man will, therefore," see that for every pound of fresh butter made up in this way, would turn in a clear profit of from Sd to 9d per lb., besides confer ring a great benefit on the community by supplying an article that has been hitherto out of the reach of many families in the winter. I will be most happy toexplain the matter more fully to any person who thinks anything of the subject if they will make it their business ts call or write to me.”
