FARMERS’ UNION.
MATAMATA BRANCH. A meeting of the Matamata branch of the Farmers’ Union was held in th° Farmers* Hall on Saturday night. • Present: Messrs. H. Rollett (cJiairfc Rian), A. Bowler, E. Bowler, J. Cranswick, G. J. Duxficld, H. E. Mogfoul, J. H. Prowse and J. W. Simpson. FARMERS’ ADVOCATE. A A letter was received from the provincial secretary asking the branch, along with others, to subscribe to the Dominion organ. The secretary w.as instructed to reply to the effect teat the paper was already being taken. SEWERAGE. The town clerk notified that it was the Town Board’s intention to construct a sewer through the back of the branch's property in Tainui street and that plans of the same were open f °Mi\ S Sampson thought that, in the event of there being a vent hole, precaution should be taken with regard to any possible nuisance. LIGHT. Mr E. Bowler expressed his appreciation of the branch’s efforts m getting an extra electric light placed on Station road. „ ....... POWER. ’ Some desultory discussion then took place with regard to the allegedly excessive charges for lectnc' power, and, in particular, with regard to them bedng estimated on the basis of butte - fat returns. It was pointed out y members that a farmer who used a six-cow'pi ant machine was using less nower than a man with a smallei plant, and yet under “ the butter-fat system” of reckoning he was, P„io rata, charged more. The fac A further commented on that where a farmer used his power for other purposes than supply to the m ilk mg machine, such as pumping watei and so on he was getting the same free of cost at the expense of the man who was not so using his powei, but was present changes and system were meqM?bA.‘ Bowler thought that it was as broad as it was long; if they were not taking the power they wouM have y. to pay rates levied by the Power Board ’ ORGANISATION.
