A NOTABLE EVENT.
VISIT OF WESTMINSTER GLEE SINGERS. By special arrangement Mr. Edward Branscombe lias endeavoured to have the leave of the members of the Westminster Glee Singers extended by the authorities of the London College of Choirsters and the various :athcdrhls to which they belong, and ■in consequence a special grand concert will be given at the Matamata Town Hall on Saturday next. Three new boy ropranos have lately arrived from England, and the personnel of ilia choir is now: Boys, Edmund Walter, soloist; Albert Cooper, soloist: Leslie Snow, Ronald Thompson and the three new hoys, Roland and Thomas May'ne .and Arthur Valentino. The gentlemen, Mr. Donald Reid and Mr. William Lowry, male altos; Mr. Edward Branscombe, Mr. Ellis Vizard and; Mr. George Pownall, tenors; basses, Mr. John Ajidrews a nd Mr. Alfred ' Cunningham. With the additional voices, Mr. Branscombe has now included many excerpts from grand: opera in the extensive repertoire and the programme to be presented will include excerpts from the principal grand operas, solos, duets, niartett.es, madrigals, glees, anthems and Old English folk songs. The "•our of the Commonwealth, recently concluded, has been an unprecedented success. Thirty-two concerts were •given in Sydney, and even in Brisbane, with unusually hot weather, 18 concerts were given and many more :ould have been given. The all round excellence of the music sung and the entertainment generally makes ?» very wide appeal and the boy soloists have taken Australia by storm. The company has just concluded a phenomenally successful season at Auckland, and intending patrons are advised •to ' book their seats straight away. .
