THE METHODIST CHURCH.
MINLSTERS W ELCOMED. Recently transferred from the Birkenhead-Novthcote Methodist circuit to the Matamata circuit, the Rev. Percy Cooke has been spending the past few days in the Putaruru portion of his new territory, in company with the Rev. C. Vugler, who succeeds the Rev. W. Parker as Melhodist home missionary at Putaruru. Prior to his return To Matamata Mr. Cooke was publicly welcomed to the Putaruru district at an evening function in the Town Hall, arranged by the local Methodist Ladies’ Guild. The occasion opened at 5 p.m. with a sale ot work, two stalls doing satisfactory business. At (i p.m, tea was served to all present by the Guild and a sumptuous repast it proved. Later Mr. N. H. Ashford acting as chairman of the gathering, the welcome of the Methodists of the Putaruru district was extended to Revs. Cooke and Vugler by Mr. R. Alcorn. The circuit steward. Mr. J. F. Vosper, also gave a short address, intimating that Mr. Cooke should prove a splendid minister lor these parts. A cinematograph entertainment, generously given by Mrs. Aspden in aid of the Guild funds, followed and was much enjoyed by a very large attendance.
