FOOTBALL.
A Matamata referees’ association was formed on Tuesday evening, Mr W. Ruthe being elected president and Mr A. Mateer secretary, Referees were appointed for Saturday's matches, Mr Mateer going to Waharoa and Mr Ruthe officiating in tho Wairore v Patotere match. Tho football season commences on Saturday, whon Matamata meet Waharoa at Waharoa and Patetoro play Wairere at Matamata. .
A meeting of delegates from the various sub-unions interested in resuscitating the South Auckland Rugby Union was hold at MorrinsviHe on Monday evening. The delegates comprised Messrs Moore-Jonos and Yardley (Matamata), Warner and Chapman (Morrinsvillp), Govan (Paeroa), Hamilton (Piako) and H A. Wilson (Maniapoto). Mr Chapman was voted to tho chair. Mr McDavitt was appointed secretary pro tern. Correspondence was received from the N.Z. Rugby Union and Hamilton Rugby Union. After considerable discussion the following resolution was adopted:—“That tho delegates attending this meeting aro strongly of opinion that the South Auckland Rugby Union should be revived in the interests of country football and that a further meeting be hel l at Hamilton on Friday, 7th May, to enable a fuller representation of various unions interested to be present ’’ The delegates present were unanimously in favour of the revival of the union, but wished to obtain the views of some of the sub-unions who could not be present. _____
