MILK FOODS, LTD.

The first statutory general meeting of the shareholders in the Waharoa Brandi of the Zcalandia Co-op. Milk Foods, Ltd., a subsidiary company to the amalgamated dairy concern—N.Z. Co-op. Dairy Coy., Ltd.—was held in the Waharoa Hall on Wednesday. Messrs. W. Good fellow (managing director), W. Blackett (chairman of directors N.Z. Co-op. Dairy Coy., Ltd.), and A. G. Shirley (manager) were in attendance. Air. Tuck was elected to the chair. The meeting was attended by about 00 members. Mr. Good fellow read the directors’ report, which was adopted on the motion of Messrs. Quinlan and Casindine, and then enlightened the shareholders on the preliminary operations and the proposed agreement. He also commented upon the prospects of the company, which, he said* were particularly bright. In answer to Mr. Quinlan, Air. Goodfellow stated that it was estimated that the new Waharoa factory would he able to deal with the produce from 5,000 cows. There was really too much milk now offering for the commencement. To Mr. S. Gunn: It was intended that the liabilities for the erection of tho factory should be paid off in three years by the deduction of so much per jfound of butter-fat. This was at first estimated at Od, hut would probably he less—say fourpence per lb. ELECTION OF DIRECTORS. Alessrs. J. Barker, S. Gunn, E. J. King, K. McKenna, R. S. Tuck, and W. Kirkness were nominated for the three scats on the directorate. This was the first election, and Alessrs. Tuck, King and Barker were successful. This concluded the general meeting, after which Air. Goodfellow spoke upon the prospects of the dairy industry generally. He still believed that the prospects for the new venture were really good. He suggested, however, flint the. country should have a free market. The Imperial Supplies Committee was not dealing lair with New Zealand. The company lmd also been up against it with regard to the procuration of machinery. This had to come from all parts of the world, and the shortage of shipping had interfered. The boilers were now on the water, and they had been able to obtain from tho Cambridge company. After referring to other difficulties met with, Air. Shirley said that he could not give any asuraneo as to when the factory would be ready, Inhoped in February, but it, might lie early in March. Really the shortage of labour in all directions rendered conditions such that no guarantee could be given. THANKS. A hearty vote of thanks wus accorded Alessrs. Tuck. Clothier and Barker, tin! retiring provisional .directors. Air. Blackett also spoke particularly regarding the amalgamation, and mentioned the encomiums due to the directors of the Waikato Co-op. Dairy Coy., Ltd.
