Matamata Public Hall.
To the Editor. Sir, —Kindly allow mo a short space to reply to Mr Smales’ last letter on the above. Ia his letter Mr Sanies says, “ There appears to be some misunderstanding with regard to my complaint re the condition of the ball on the recent visit of the Te Km . I do not wish in anyway to belittle the achievement of the hall committee.” Well, I accept Mr Smales’ apology aud trust that in future lie will assidiously cultivate that judicial frame of mind which is at all times necessary to those who arrogate to themselves the light to pass judgment on others. I presume that this matter may now he allowed to sink into oblivion. In passing I wish to assure Mr Smales that my uso of the man de-plume had no sinister purpose, but was actuated solely by my innate sense of modesty. Referring to the letter of “ Patron,” which appears on thu same subject, ho says. “ What the past services of the hall committoo have to do with this particular lapse, I fail to soe.” In the face of this statement it would he both uuproiitublo and unpalatablo for me to attempt to instruct “Patron” in tho ethics of a square deal.—l am, etc.’ Fauu'i.ay.
