MATAMATA TOWN BOARD
Fortnightly Meeting The meeting of the Matamata Town Board was held on Monday evening. The members present were Messrs J. Price (chairman), W. A. Gordon, J. Mclntyre, and J. F. Yosper. ROAD' FORMATION The clerk reported that no tenders had been received for tho formation of streets as advertised. After some discussion Mr Gordon moved that the foreman be instructed to commence the formation of the roads as soon as possible, with day labour, and that he also be empowered to employ any necessary labour. Mr Gordon further moved that the chairman be empowered to advertise for a dray and a grader, and to purchase anything suitable offered. FIREWOOD Mr Gordon moved that Mr D. Fassey’s tender for the whole of firewood cut on Elizabeth St. be accepted. LETTER BOXES. The chairman reported that a joint meeting of;the Board, Chamber of Commerce, and Farmers’Union had been hold and that it had been decided that the postmaster be asked to endeavour to get a letter box erected at tho Glaxo factory, one at the school, and also if possible one at the Waharoa Road corner. MATERNITY HOME. It was decided that a letter be sent to the Minister of Public Health stating the requirements of the district and asking for the fullest information as to what steps should be taken to start a Maternity Home in Matamata. The matter of a Cottage Hospital was deferred meanwhile. SAND. Mr D. Fussey made application to the Board for a permit to cart sand off the section in Tower Road. Mr Vosper moved that Mr Fussey’s application be left in abeyance until next meeting and that in the meantime the chairman be empowered to visit the property, and report. SANITARY DEPOT The clerk stated that tho Public Trustee intended visiting Matamata during the week to interview the chairman of the acre of the proposed sanitary depot. TOWN HALL Several applications both for the lease and for the management of tho Town Hall were considered by the Board. It was decided, however, that the matter be adjourned to a special meeting in order that the clerk could obtain certain information. The Board decided to ask the Hall and Library Committees to arrange that the offices be vacated by the piv*3nt lessees by Dec. Ist* It was also agreed to make the library rent free after that date. ACCOUNTS Accoumts totalling £22 13s 6d were passed for payment.
