VALEDICTORY

Mr and Mrs W, J. Holmes The residents of Taihoa were again called upon to bid farewell to some of their most respected citizens on Friday last, Mr aud Mrs W. J. Holmes having disposed of their property. The hall was tastefully decorated, the floor was in good order for dancing, and excellent music (Mr Darby’s orchestra) was provided. The large attendance was drawn from Taihoa and many surrounding where Mr and Mrs Holmes are much respected. During the evening Mr W. S. Wilson made a farewell address, • and was called upon to present a oak clock to the guests■W In the course of his remarks Mr * Wilson spoke of them as being the first of the Taihoa settlers—pioneers and good neighbours. > They had worked hard for the disN. trict, Mr Holmes especially having been a moving spirit in /connection with the erection of - the creamery and public hall. They were settlers of the calibre which could be ill-spared, and their neighbours wished them long life and continued prosperity. Mr Holmes suitably responded and thanked the settlers on behalf of his wife and self for their good wishes and handsome present, which they would treasure in memory of their life in Taihoa.
