TIRAU.
A meeting of the Tirau Racing Club was held on October 6th. There was a good attendance of members. The officers elected were: —President, Mr J. W. Anderson ; secretary, Mr E. W. Jordan; committee: Messrs W. 11. Allen, J. Kitto, S. J. Bear, T. Little, L. Bell, R. Harding, J. Whybrow, B. Neville, J. McCarthy, and J. Middleton. It was decided to hold a race meeting on January Ist, 1920, and to award £SO to the Cup event, £25 to the County Handicap, and £5 to each of the other races.
The home-coming of Sergt. O. Kidson to Tirau has been signalised by the holding of several functions in his honor. The returned soldiers of the district foregathered at the residence of Mr and Mrs Kidson on Oct Ist, when a dinner was given. On the following evening Mr and Mrs Kidson entertained tbo residents of the district at an evening in the Tirau hall. There was_a large attendance from all
district. The hall decorated witlings' and flowers. provided by Mrs
tWTnun and Mrs Stewart, and a happy time was spent in dancing. Some glaring instances of the manner in which cows are ruined was noticed at the Tirau sale on Wednesday- Quite a number of cows in milk were yarded in a condition which pointed to their not having been milked for a lengthy period. The comments of fanners were not complimentary to the owners.
