DRIED MILK FACTORY FOR TIRAU.
—♦ * Indications of Success \ As the result of a chat in which three or four settlers of Tirau took part, a meeting of farmers was • convened to consider the advisability of establishing a dried milk factory at Tirau. A meeting was held, at which 20 settlers were present. Mr W. H. Allen presided. Mr Hetherington, director of the Thames Valley Company, • was present, and in the course of an address said that good water, good drainage and 1500 cows were required. It was stated that good drainage and good water obtained at Tirau, and that 1250 cows could bo guaranteed. This number of cows could be increased to 1500 and more provided the - milk could be got out from farms situated at Tapapa and at other points with- ' in three miles of'the town. Mr Allen, who referred to the matter on Wednesday, said he was one of the original promoters. There was no doubt, he said, the new dairy company of which Mr W. Goodfellow was manager would arrange for a division of the district and would transfer the shares held by the settlers in the district, some of whom supplied Thames Valley and some the N.Z. Dairy Company under the home separa- , tion scheme. This arrangement would obviate overlapping and would facilitate the satisfactory working of the proposed scheme if it were gone on with, and would not result in any loss to settlers. Payment equal to 3/- per lb butterfat was promised under the new scheme. Mr Allen expressed confidence that the project would be gone on with, A committee including Messrs Gray, Stewart, Hetherington, Lichfield and Allen was appointed to gather all information available and to report at a meeting to be held in a week’s time.
