WAOTU.

A plain and fancy dress ball was recently held in the Waotu public hall in aid of the hall funds. The evening was fine and the hall filled to overflowing. A large number were in fancy dress, many of the dresses were very well got up. Those in fancy dress were: — Misses I. .Jones, Clair d’lune ; D. Barnett, Peace; M. Barnett, New Zealand; Henderson, Dutch Girl; N. Phillips, Red Cross Nurse; T. Phillips, “ Digger ” (N.Z.) Soldier ; Meeds, Red Riding Hood; M. Edwards, Maori Chief’s daughter; Morse, School Girl; W. E. Stewart, Indian Soldier; Mesdames Harwood, Britannia; Voyce, Egyptian Woman; Roach, Queen of Hearts; Proctor, Games of Chance (first prize); Stewart, Italy ; Messrs Voyce and Webley,\ Brave Bear’s Foot and his Squaw; Moses Phillips, “ Matamata Record ”; Roach and Henderson, Nurse and Baby; Mr W. Henderson, King of Hearts; Alex Cave, Naval man; Clark, Maori Chief; W. Morse, Matador; Dean Kirite, black and white ; Gus Niels, nigger and R. Thorpe, his wife; I Meeds, swagger; T. Stewart, Charlie Chaplin. Mr Moses Phillips caused much fun as ‘‘Matamata Record,” on his back was printed “ It pays to advertise in the Matamata Record.” Prizes were awarded to ladies Mrs Proctor, games of chance ; gents Mr C.
