At a meeting at Morrinsville Without much discussion the following motion was passed:— " That this representative meeting of farmers, busine.ss men and residistrict strongly protests against the action of the Railway Department in refusing to carry plant, etc., necessary for the re-erection of dairy factories in this and other districts. The dairy season opers next month and the refusal of the Department must result in delay m opening factories. Any Ition which reduces producHi is detrimental to the Rjfare of the Dominion. If RLmes are not in. working Her dairy farmers in this disKict will suffer heavily." Copies ■of this motion were sent to the Ministers of Railways and Supplies and the General Manager N.Z. Railways. Mr G. Howie spoke on the hardship the railway regulations were inflicting on soldier settlers, who were being hampered in building

operations. The Government would expect them to pay out for their sections. How were they to do it if they could not build cow bails? He moved: "That this meeting urges on the Minister of Railways the urgent necessity of allowing the soldier settlers to

carry timber and cement required for erection of homes and cowsheds. Unless permission given immediately settlers acquiring sections will be unable to milk during the coming season and consequently will be unable to pay their wjtyv" On the motion of Mr McLachlan a resolution was carried thanking Mr J. A. Young, M.P., for the fight he was making on the dairymen's part and expressing appreciation of his efforts.

The Tatuanui branch of the Farmers' Union, unanimously passed the following resolutions: " That we view with dismay the impending disaster that will fol-loV-ihe continued refusal of the railways to carry materials and machinery necessary for the extension and equipment of dairy factories and request that these requirements be immediately placed on the essential list." At a meeting of Motumaoho dairy farmers on Friday night the following resolution was carried: M That this meeting of representative farmers at Motumaoho requests the Minister of Railways and the Minister of Munitions to supply coal to immediately transport machinery and other requisites for dairy companies, and that all requisites of dairy industries be put on essential list."
