CATHOLIC CHURCH BAZAAR.

Large Sum Raised. A bazaar, in aid of the Cambridge Manse fund was held by the Roman Catholics of tho district in the Matamata Town Hall on Thursday and Friday last, and was a most pronounced success. The day sessions were patronised as usual, but the evening attendances were exceptionally large, the attractions , being greater. One of the features of the function was the dances and marches by the pretty girls of the district, given on both evenings. These consisted of music, marches and maypole dances. On both evenings the features were staged without mistake and gave great pleasure to all present. In connection therewith great praise is due to Mrs W. T. Darby, who was responsible for the tuition of the girls, and for the staging and the musical accompaniments. The girls themselves also were worthy of the applause given them- The orchestral selections rendered throughout each evening session were also much appreciated. Those taking part were Mrs W. T. Darby (piano), Mrs W. Ryan (violin), Mr Darby (violin), Mr H. A. Jones (flute) and Mr M. Bates (cornet). Exhibitions of fancy skating by Mr Sid Wade, and poi dances by two Maori young ladies wero also interesting items. The usual competitions were well patronised, and a very pleasant affair was brought to a close at midnight on Friday. The balance of goods over were auctioned by Mr J. Pohlen, after which the Rev. Father Kirrane thanked the people for the patronage accorded tho church, especially those of other denominations, a number of whom had been actively engaged for tho two days. The proceedings concluded with a short dance. A report of the proceedings would not be complete without a reference to the energy and capabilities of the secretary Mrs F. M. Darby. When it is stated that the takings were over £2OO and that there was never a hitch in the proceedings, the magnitude of her task can be imagined. Mrs Darby was assisted by a strong committee who also worked well. All are deserving of congratulations.
