MATAMATA TOWN BOARD.

Fortnightly Meeting. The fortnightly meeting of the Matamata Town board was held on Monday of last week. There were present—Messrs J- Price (chairman), G. Bell, W. Gordon, J. Mclntyre and J. F. Vosper. Mr Price on behalf of the board welcomed the newly elected member, Mr J. Mclntyre. The chairman then reported on the -Te Aroha Hydro Electric Power meeting, and also on his interview with the Waikato Hospital and Charitable Aid board. TOWN SECTIONS. It was decided that in view of the failure to get any satisfaction from the Minister of Lands in regard to certain town reserves a letter be sent to the Commissioner of Crown Lands asking him to grant the board the first refusal of about four of the Crown Lands Town Extension sections, and also that the Commissioner be asked to put a price on the sections. COTTAGE HOSPITAL. The board decided to forward a letter to the Waikato Hospital board asking for a return of the number of Matamata district patients treated at the hospital during the past twelve months; also to ask the Matamata County council to support the board in its endeavors to get a cottage hospital established in Matamata. THE POUND. The County council's offer to reduce the original price of the pound from £75 to £SO, was discussed and accepted, conditionally upon the council undertaking to do all in its power to assist the board to secure absolute control of the section. LIGHTS.

The chairman reported that ho had arranged with Messrs Wallace and Co., Mrs Connell and Mr F. Williams to keep their street lamps burning at night for the convenience of residents, for the sum of £lO each per annum. This was considered by the board to be quite satisfactory, and the chairman's action was endorsed. GENERAL. Matters in connection with bylaws and sub-divisions were also dealt with.
