A farewell social will be tendered to Mr and Mrs Bently in the Matamata Town hall on Tuesday next, June 10th.

Miss Juniper, organiser of domestic science for the Auckland Education board,visited the Matamata Manual trainingischool last week.

Word has been received by his father, Mr J. Cotter, of Hinuera, that his son, Private “ Dick ” Cotter, is due to arrive in New Zealand on June 20th.

Among the Matamata prizewinners at the Winter show was Mr A. G. Yardley, who secured four firsts, two seconds and|a third prizes in the poultry section with seven White Wyandottes.

The Presbyterian church was was filled to overflowing on Sunday afternoon last when the memorial service to the late Mr H. A. Kelso was held. An inspiring sermon was preached by the Rev. R. W. Jackson, and appropriate hymns were sung.

At the Town board meeting on Monday the chairman stated that when in Wellington he had approached the Hon. Minister for Railways re setting back the railway fence and allowing the installation of seats. The Minister suggested the formation of a beautifying society when he would further consider the matter.
