A PRESENTATION.
Soldier Settlers’ Gratitude Towards the conclusion of tho Kereone Soldier Settlers’ annual meeting on Monday, a pleasing duty fell to Mr Basley—that of presenting to the retiring president, Mr M. Larney, a gold Elgin hunter watch, inscribed as follows : “ Presented to Malcolm Larney, Esq., by his followsettlers. Kereone, March 1919.” Mr Basley said he had been asked to make the presentation by those who supported Mr Larney at the recent County council election, who wished to show that they suitably recognised his worth bofore ho left the district. Although Mr Larney was not successful at the election, it was perhaps mainly due to his committee not having been energetic enough. That he was capable of filling important public positions all of those who had subscribed recognised. They wished that he was still resident in the district. However, as he was not, they wished him great future prosperity. Several other members also paid tribute 'to Mr Larney’b abilities. Mr Larney suitably responded.
