An accommodation house has been opened at Putaruru by Mrs J. Kimber, who has a notice in this issue. We regret to state that Mr W. McNab has been ordered into hospital, his wounds received at the war having made a further operation necessary. The result of the Hungahunga Drainage board poll on a proposal to borrow £SOOO for land drainage works near Matamata was a vote of 40 to 1 in favor. A great improvement to the corner of Arawft street and Tower road has been affected by the Town board foreman, necessary filling and metalling work having raised and broadened what was previously a bad corner. Word has been received from Gunner “Steve” Stockdale stating that he was at Charleroi, on the road to the Rhine (late in December). He has a great word regarding the receptions being given the troops, and also speaks well of the towns they have passed through. G. J. Mackay’s for plants and bulbs. Firewood for sale at 16s per ton. Family want milking herd on shares for next season. Notice re special licensing poll and scrutineers. Overland cars at lowest prices at Pomeroy & Co.’s. Messrs Reid and Davies advertise in this issue that they are opening business in Matamata as auctioneers, furnishers, etc. Mr Reid has had a long experience in the general furniture business, and Mr Davies, a returned soldier, had considerable business experience prior to enlisting. They have secured a conimodius mart and will hold sales and conduot clearing sales in any part of the district. As they are filling a decided want in the district it is very desirable that they should get the support their enterprise" demands.
