A SPORTS GROUND.

Combined Action Probablp. With the re-formation of the Matamata Racing Club, the necessity for a property on which to race has been brought home forcibly to those who enjoy “ the sport of kings,” and ways and means, and possible locality have been the subject of conversations for some weeks. Fortunately for this month’s race meeting a citizen, Mr T. Bottomley, has come forward and offer the club the use of his property, where a good course is provided, and it is there that the race meeting is being held to-day. However, the manner in which the club’s programme has been accepted by the racing public leaves no doubt as to the future, and it is quite apparent that the club will have a reputation to uphold. To do this it will require something permanent in the way of grounds, so that suitable buildings may bo erected. This is hardly possible on a leased ground, one difficulty being that of finance. Matters were put in concrete form on Wednesday last when the Racing club committee carried resolutions recommending the purchase of a suitable ground, and also that the Matamata A. and P. Association be allowed the use of the ground for use for its annual show if required. It was stated that the idea was to secure a ground which would for all time be recognised as the official ground for both bodies. The matter was brought for-

•ward at the A. and P. meeting on * Thursday, and a notice of motion was given that the question be . brought up and considered at the annual meeting. It was stated, after the recent show, that the show ground, especially the ring, was now too Bmall for requirements and this fact is recognised by many members. . Now that the question has been officially put forward there is every probability that it will be gone on with, with definite results.
